PlayStation has established a new development studio called Dark Outlaw Games, led by Jason Blundell, a top developer who previously worked at Call of Duty studio Treyarch.

Blundell revealed this in an interview with Jeff Gerstmann. He is currently in the process of staffing the studio and mentioned that he will be able to share more details about their first project in the future.

"I have the incredible opportunity to establish a new developer within PlayStation Studios. The studio is called Dark Outlaw. We've been working behind the scenes for a while, and when we're ready to talk about something, we will. It's an immense privilege to start a new first-party studio with Sony, as they don’t do that lightly."

Blundell left Treyarch in 2020 and was widely recognized as one of the key figures behind the Zombies mode in the Call of Duty franchise. He later founded Deviation Games, which was developing a new IP for PlayStation. However, Blundell left the studio in 2022, and in 2024, the studio was shut down.

Rumors had already circulated that Blundell had opened a new PlayStation development studio in Los Angeles. A job listing previously mentioned that the company was looking for a "Project Senior Producer" for a "newly established AAA studio in Los Angeles," led by "a team of seasoned industry veterans" and focused on developing the "next groundbreaking AAA game."
